Here are the kinds of drawings I do in my spare time...
In fact most of these were done in between classes at school. Though they aren't drawn as carefully as many of my school projects, I often used them as a chance to experiment with some of the design principles I've learned. They are certainly very colorful, and reflect my own personal style.
Gremlin
This is one of my favorites. I have always found Gremlins amusing and decided that I wanted to create a portrait of one based on actual WWII descriptions. Especially since no one else seemed to have really cared to.
Unfortunately these descriptions varied from colorful little men dressed as pilots (or ruffled shirts with caps and spats) to a sort of cross between a jack-rabbit and a bull-terrier...so naturally I just combined them all.
I really enjoyed the research I did for this image and may have to make a story out of it someday.

Alien Abduction
This one I did in between classes, specifically to scare a friend of mine who was terrified of the concept of alien abduction.
I tried to experiment using the alien's gestures to kind of lead the eye around the image. I also experimented a little with complimentary colors.

Halloween Stranger
This one I did absolutely for fun to hail in the beginning of the Halloween Season. I thought very little of it at the time, but it always turns out to be everyone's favorite.
I experimented a lot with the blending of colors in the animal's eyes. Perhaps those eyes are what keeps on stealing the hearts of everyone who looks at this drawing.

Matron
This one I also did in between classes. I mostly wanted to experiment using my colored pencils to create a sort of dynamic skin color. It's also fun to experiment with a little symbolic art every now and then.
There's a funny story that goes with it, though. As I was drawing it, the same friend who was afraid of aliens, peered over my shoulder and asked innocently, "But, I thought girls had babies in their stomachs..."

Twinki Time Machine (Bambi Raptors)
After visiting the Dinosaur museum at Thanksgiving point, I wanted to create a sort of humorous story about traveling in a time machine. In fact, I designed the time-machine after a twinki and created an image of it in my Illustrator class, which you can see on my School Projects page.
Here, one of the characters has been treed by a pack of Bambi Raptors. I hoped to use the raptors to lead your eye around the image, and the plants to keep it from wandering off the page.

Twinki Time Machine (Quetzalcoatlus)
I put myself in the story for my own amusement--that's me on the left. In the story we had to approach a lot of these animals, stick a sort of device in them for a minute, and then get it back again afterwards. These close encounters offered a lot of opportunities for some amusing action shots.
Unfortunately, I don't think the eye travels as comfortably around this one. It might be better if I were to take that device and curve it around to kind of catch your eye from following my arms off the page, and swing it back around towards the animal's neck.

Twinki Time Machine (Meganeura)
This one isn't very well drawn or very accurate, but the idea is priceless.
Caught Dream
This was the first image I ever made on my own in Adobe Illustrator. It is a self portrait made it to illustrate a dream I had a long time ago. It is made entirely of interlocking shapes and gradients.
I also did a bit of Photoshop experimentation in the back, however, I'm not sure if it works or if it just seems out of place.

Zion Alien 1
This one I actually did in the car on a vacation to Zion National Park. It was actually inspired by my sister's shadow. She was wearing a bandanna with her sunglasses propped up on the top of her head. Her shadow looked so much like an alien to me that I just had to draw it.
Zion Alien 2
I had so much fun with the first one, that I made this one on the same vacation at a Denny's in St. George. It's inspiration is the combination of a salt shaker and my sister's tropical drink.
I did a little experimentation with the reflectivity in its eyes.

Dream Characters
These are actually from a dream I had, where the characters were so colorful that I just had to draw them when I woke up.
You know, I wish I would have outlined it in pen before I colored it.

In the Secret Hidden Places
This is an actually an illustration for a lyrical poem I did. It's pen and ink on note paper. It goes with a series of illustrations and poems for a publication in my creative writing class.
Guardian
Here is a another illustration from that series.
Reality Hoax
This one is also from that series, only using dark silhouettes, instead of lighter ones.
Poke'mon Fan Art
It's kind of silly, especially since I tend to give other people a hard time about sharing fan art...however, it demonstrates a new extension of my own personal style that I've been using lately.
Instead of using colored pencil, I now enjoy scanning the line drawings into the computer and coloring them in Corell Painter 11. It's a technique that I intend to expound upon.
